Refreshing The George

KDPO has worked with publican Scott Connolly before, helping to launch the Healesville Hotel and Orrong Hotel (yes, he’s the kind of guy who knows when a pub is worth saving). Naturally, we were all-in when he approached us to get the word out about his latest project, The George Hotel in South Melbourne.

Opened in 1865, The George is located across the road from the South Melbourne Market and is a firm favourite of market goers and locals alike. It was also very much in need of updating. Scott’s brilliant overhaul has maintained the building’s historic integrity while bringing it firmly into the present, pairing contemporary interiors with a menu that treats pub classics seriously. Steaks with a choice of sauces (yes, peppercorn is in the mix), lasagne, sesame prawn toast, house-baked focaccia and slow-roasted lamb shoulder all earn their place.

KDPO handled messaging, media dinners and photoshoots, with the launch earning coverage in Broadsheet Melbourne, Good Food, Gourmet Traveller, delicious The Sunday Age, Tourism Australia’s The Hot List, MFWF, Sitchu Melbourne, Concrete Playground and Australian Hotelier. It’s brilliant proof that a pub can evolve without losing its soul.
