Melbourne’s arts scene is always full of thrills and surprises, one of the latest being Souvenirs of Sleep, the most recent and ongoing project of prolific young artist and filmmaker Ling Ang that KDPO helped launch and promote.
Consisting of a photobook and an immersive experience installation, Souvenirs of Sleep documents Ling’s lucid dreams, focussing of the space between consciousness and subconsciousness.
While Ling has worked as a filmmaker and artist for the past decade (with productions and showcases spanning the UK, Asia, Europe, Japan, the US and Australia), Souvenirs of Sleep marks the first time she’s stepped out from behind the lens.
Souvenirs of Sleep was launched in two parts in March. A live talk at the Melbourne Art Book Fair and an immersive experience during NGV’s Design Week attracted print and online coverage (including a full-page feature in The Saturday Paper as well as coverage in, Time Out Melbourne, Liminal Magazine, Artist Profile and broadcast radio) and the attention of key media and influencers who we invited to Ling’s immersive experience installed at St Kilda’s Alex Theatre in St Kilda.
